Refugio State Beach
Rating 3-5 - the reason this campground isn’t a 5 is that you have to come completely prepared with all food, water, ice, etc. Goleta is the nearest town by 30-45 minutes for any supplies. Plus, the bathrooms are not the prettiest I’ve seen. Rinse off in the ocean and wait to shower at home.
But wow! This little campground is tucked into a beautiful cove surrounded by palm trees, caves and sandy shores. Perfect for floating aimlessly on a raft, paddle boarding and exploring. Safe for kids with a small swing set and an old basketball court to show off your hoops.
The camping spots vary in size - really can’t go wrong with where you decide to camp. There’s a limited number of spots and they fill up fast when reserving online. This camp ground is very chill… it is what you make of it. Come prepared to relax, build sand castles, hunt for ocean treasures and explore all the rocks.
Would I go again? YES! Very relaxing and perfect place to enjoy the ocean.
