Camping Tips

Take a Class!

I’ve been craving to learn more about wilderness survival – not the extreme stuff (at least not yet) – but how to start a fire without a lighter, purify water, build a shelter, survival tips and basic knots. REI Wilderness Survival Skills – 3 Seasons – Class was just right and I highly recommend. Most of what I learned today far exceeds what you would need to know for camping, but it is really good to know for anyone who wants to take day hikes/weekend trips while camping. Not to mention, some great information to teach your little ones. Establishing a sun dial to determine your West/East location and then using a compass to set different markers. The “3 Rules” for survival… 3 minutes without air; 3 hours without shelter; 3 days without water; 3 weeks without food. Plus, making some really cool shelters (or forts for kids) with a rope and tarp! You’ll be the coolest mom in the campground.
