Thornhill Broome, Pt. Mugu
Primitive bitter sweet beach camping
Rating 2-5 - this long strip of camping spots is not exotic, no water, no showers, no convenient stores and the waves crashing on the rocks at night is very loud. BUT… you are right on the sand camping.
So I love camping on the beach, but I also love restrooms and showers! I feel that Thornhill Broome is more of a one-stop, road trip kind of camping. Not much to do there except hang out. The beach terrain has some debris and large rocks near the water line - not ideal for boogie boarding. There is also not much natural coverage, so be prepared for varying temperatures: hot sun, cool fog and wind.
If you have the right trailer, this destination could be just what you need. The PCH is right behind you and you’ll hear traffic for sure. Some things to consider when camping at Thornhill... Bring your own: fire wood, port a potty, cleaning station for dishes, ear plugs, plenty of food, extra lightening for campsite, shovel for digging out fire pit, shoes for around fire pit and binoculars - lots of wonderful sea life and stars to view at night.
Would I go again? Nah… I did it once and that was good enough.
